Then PositiveFlats wants you!

PositiveFlats, an initiative powered by Africa Ascend, is on a mission to highlight the inspiring stories, local heroes, and positive projects that make the Cape Flats shine. We’re looking for young, motivated volunteers to join our Community Storytellers Programme — where you’ll learn the basics of journalism, storytelling, and media while creating real impact in your community.

🌍 Who We’re Looking For

• • Youth (Post-Matric) — between 18 and 25 years old

  • Currently studying media, communication, journalism, or simply interested in storytelling and community work

  • Passionate about positive change and uplifting local communities

  • Committed, creative, and eager to learn

✍️ What You’ll Gain

• • Training in basic journalism and storytelling techniques

  • Mentorship and feedback from experienced writers and media professionals

  • The opportunity to have your work published on the PositiveFlats platform

  • Access to life skills workshops and community networking opportunities

  • A chance to build hands-on experience in the media field

  • The opportunity to grow with PositiveFlats — this is a volunteer-based opportunity with the potential for paid writing assignments for dedicated participants as the project develops.

   • A short motivation (200–300 words) explaining why you’d like to be selected and what drives your passion for storytelling

   • A short write-up (500–600 words) about a community hero, project, or positive story from your area.

Be authentic. We want to hear your voice and see your community through your eyes.
